Some students will take longer than others while creating artwork. As I do not rush students, some time outside of class may be needed to finish.Class Experience
In this one time painting class, students will paint a snowman in winter while learning about different brush strokes and the use of cool colors. Students will learn basic acrylic painting techniques. I will lead a discussion about the techniques we will use and how best to achieve this look using acrylic paint and assorted brushes. At the beginning of the class, I will go over the art materials with the students. We will discuss color mixing and the use of a palette to mix paints. I will demonstrate and instruct students to sketch the basic shapes of a snowman and to put in a general landscape sketch. Learners will achieve shades, tones, and highlights through color mixing. I will discuss stroke direction that will create the form of round shapes for the snowmen. Students will have fun adding hats, gloves, and other accessories to their snowman. The eyes, buttons, and the stick arm details will be created using a smaller, detail brush. Students may make changes to the painting to suit their own creative ideas. I encourage lots of creativity in this class. My teaching style is relaxed. Students can go at their own pace. I will encourage students to show me their artwork during the creative process so that I can give feedback that is both educational and enthusiastic. Learners will get to interact with me and with each other, while creating their own artwork and watching my demonstration. At the end of class, students can show their artwork to each other and to me. If students don't feel comfortable sharing, students may opt to post a photo of the finished project in the classroom. Prior basic painting experience and comfort using acrylic paints is recommended for this class. This class is great for both beginner and intermediate students.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
