Class Experience

In this ongoing art class, students will learn about a variety of arts and crafts techniques, while socializing with each other and the teacher. The topics I will cover will be process art, learning about being an artist and using art materials, and how art is found everywhere in both nature and the man made world.

The class will be structured in a fun, easy to follow format. Every class will begin with a verbal and visual introduction to the day's project. I will review with the artists what art materials they are using and answer any questions at this time. I will provide a step by step demonstration of the art project, while learners begin their own projects. I will provide lots of encouragement and support for each student. During arts and crafts time, I will also ask engaging questions, such as “Why do you like sandcastles?” “Why did you choose these colors?” “How does the project make you feel?” Students will be allowed to talk during class, and I will act as a guide to relate the conversation to art. Towards the end of class, artists can show and talk about their projects, while practicing turn taking and complimenting each other. All classes will end with a positive review from me and encouragement to continue to be creative.

My teaching style is relaxed, and I like students to be expressive and use their imaginations. I believe there is no such thing as a right or wrong way to do arts and crafts, and I will encourage students to be as creative as possible. Students may continue to work on projects after class, and parents are encouraged to send in pictures of final work.

No previous experience is required.

Summer Schedule:
•Week of August 12: Tropical Dreams Sunset scene - watercolor paints and crayons for a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Yarn and glue to make palm trees (dark green or any dark color yarn)
•Week of August 19: Sea Turtle watercolor resist - watercolor paper, watercolor paints, and crayons or oil pastels

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.

I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.

My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
