Class Experience

We will spend time building a practice routine with exercises and warm ups that help strengthen breathing stamina and tone quality while also equipping the student with valuable technique appropriate for multiple genres.
Each student will discover his/her own vocal range and will be given exercises to work on to develop a strong practice routine. Adjustments will be made as needed through follow ups.

Please see the attached form for specific breakdowns for each week.

Lesson 1:
What is my vocal range?
 Week 1 -
What is my vocal range? Discovering one’s vocal range is crucial to making the most of your practice schedule. We will go through a couple range identification exercises to determine which vocal range (soprano, tenor, etc.) suits each student.
Breathing exercises are an integral part of the initial warm up process when beginning a good practice routine. Making sure the student has proper breath support is necessary for a successful practice session.

Lesson 2:
What is exercises should I be doing?
Which exercises should I be doing?
This question will be answered based upon the vocal range exercise results and on the skill of each student. If a student is a beginner, he will start with simple warm ups to build strength and increase tone quality. I would suggest this class for more beginning students since this will be where our focus lies during the five weeks.
Simple exercises include the following:
-Five Note Scales
-Arpeggios
-Octave Runs
-Descending Scales

 Setting up the practice routine
This will be a walk through a good, productive practice session.
We will discuss what exercises to practice and in what order. Where is the best location in the house to practice for focus and privacy?
There will be a time for questions from the students to assist them in structuring an appropriate practice schedule for them. They will be instructed to follow their practice routines for the next week.
