Refine your tone quality and pronunciation by learning proper vowel formation and rules for singing consonants. Learners will learn to form shapes for the singing vowels I, E, A, O and OO.

Beginner Ear Training
There's a saying in music that goes, "If you can hear it, you can sing it." The effectiveness of ear training cannot be understated. While this lesson only scratches the surface of the basics, learners can expect to practice recognizing the sounds of a variety of intervals, differentiating between half steps and whole steps and the difference between major and minor.

In this repertoire exploration session, learners will explore vocal music repertoire in the country music genre. Learners can expect to learn background on the genre, stylistic techniques and 1-4 country songs from a range of musical decades.

The Basics of Solfege and Curwen
Solfege and Curwen provide a structured system for learning and understanding musical pitch. Learners will learn the notes and Curwen hand signs of the major scale and learn to sing melodies containing the most common solfege intervals (Sol-Mi, Mi-Sol-La, and Do-Re-Mi).

Singing beautifully is just part of the process! Finding the messages behind the songs we sing is SO important! In this class we will analyze our favorite songs and learn strategies for emoting and expressing them to an audience in preparation for the upcoming virtual recital.

In this repertoire exploration session, learners will explore vocal music repertoire in the classical music genre. Learners can expect to learn background on the genre, stylistic techniques and 1-4 classical pieces.

Combating Stage Fright & Performance Techniques
Consider this our dress rehearsal for the virtual recital! During this class, learners will practice singing for others for the first time and learn strategies for coping and managing state fright and performance techniques including how to use a microphone, mistake recovery and improvisation. Role playing will be utilized in this lesson to navigate fictional performance scenarios.

Lesson 20
Virtual Recital
Celebrate your growth with this cumulative class performance! During the performance, learners will sing their favorite songs from the course as a solo for their peers. Other songs not learned in class may also be performed with prior approval from the instructor.
This class is taught in English.
1. Learn how to breathe properly for singing.
2. Master the right posture for singing.
3. Sing with clear diction, understanding vowels and consonants.
4. Improve vocal resonance and control in the different vocal registers.
5. Boost confidence and express emotions in singing.
6. Understand how to maintain vocal health, including rest, sleep, exercise, and hydration.
7. Explore vocal techniques across a diverse range of repertoire.
8. Cultivate social and emotional skills through group singing.
9. Understand the basics of solfege, Curwen and sight-singing/ear training.
I am a professionally trained classical singer with over twenty years of experience. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Kean University and possess a K-12 music education standard license. Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of serving as an elementary choral director in New Jersey's public schools while also providing private vocal instruction. I have a successful track record of guiding my private students to achieve audition success, secure solo and theatrical roles, and gain admission into prestigious choral programs.
Homework Offered
To maximize the value of this course, it's important for learners to engage in consistent practice. 10-20 minutes of daily practice is ideal for beginners. In addition to daily practicing, occasional brief assignments will be given to practice fundamentals learned in class.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learner progress is assessed informally and this class does not provide formal grades. While there are no official grades for this class, parents can expect to receive two progress reports for their learner during this course which will provide additional information on their learner's overall vocal development.

This class is designed to be a safe and supportive space, with songs that feature clean lyrics. 

This class utilizes two Outschool-approved third-party tools: FlipGrid, and Google Forms. 

Parental consent is required for FlipGrid use but learners may also elect to submit videos through Outschool's messaging system as an alternative.

-Prerecorded Accompaniments: To be performed by instructor on piano or using the corresponding instrumental tracks.
-YouTube Videos: Learners will occasionally watch YouTube videos which are relevant to learning topics and the curriculum. These videos are meant to enhance the course experience and engage a wide-range of learning styles. All YouTube videos utilized in this course are directly embedded into weekly lesson presentations for the course so learners will be able to enjoy them without leaving the Outschool platform.
