Homework
1-2 hours per week. To maximize the value of this course, it's important for learners to engage in consistent practice. 10-20 minutes of daily practice is ideal for beginners. In addition to daily practicing, occasional brief assignments will be given to practice fundamentals learned in class.
Assessment
Learner progress is assessed informally and this class does not provide formal grades. While there are no official grades for this class, parents can expect to receive two progress reports for their learner during this course which will provide additional information on their learner's overall vocal development.

Beginner Level
Join me for a semester of singing where your child will develop healthy singing techniques in a supportive small, group setting. Each week alternates between teaching correct vocal fundamentals and learning vocal repertoire across a wide range of musical genres. Your child will gain confidence in their vocal ability, discover their favorite vocal genres and make friends along the way! No prior singing experience is required; this class is ideal for beginners.

🎶 Class Structure:
In this 20-week course, your child will practice healthy singing techniques and learn vocal repertoire from a diverse range of musical genres. Each week alternates between learning essential vocal skills and singing vocal repertoire from various genres, ensuring a well-rounded singing education.

🍏 How I Will Teach:
This class offers a balanced approach, alternating between teaching essential singing skills and practical application through exploring songs from a wide range of musical genres, including Pop, Disney, Rock, Classical, Musical Theater, Country, Jazz, Reggae, and Soul.  Each class session will begin with light stretching, breathing exercises, and gentle vocal warm-ups.

👩🏼‍🏫 Teaching Style:
As a teacher, I have often been described as "passionate", "caring" and "tech-savvy" by parents, students and administrators alike. While I enjoy creating structured lesson plans, I tend to embrace organic learning moments as they arise and I encourage learners to ask questions and discuss concepts introduced to them throughout the course.

No prior musical or singing experience; this class is perfect for beginners who already enjoy singing!

Lesson 1:
Breathing, Singing Posture & Maintaining Vocal Health
 Start your singing journey by learning the foundations of proper breathing through diaphragmatic intercostal breathing technique as well as an introduction to singing posture and strategies for maintaining vocal health.

Explore and Sing Pop Music!
 In this repertoire exploration session, learners will explore vocal music repertoire in the pop music genre. Learners can expect to learn background on the genre, stylistic techniques and 1-4 pop songs from a range of musical decades.

The Jaw and Tongue
 Refine jaw and tongue technique and eliminate tension while singing!

Explore and Sing Disney Songs!
 In this repertoire exploration session, learners will explore Disney repertoire! Learners can expect to learn background on Disney music, vocal stylization and 1-4 pop songs from early Disney, the Renaissance era and modern Disney.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class is designed to be a safe and supportive space, with songs that feature clean lyrics. This class utilizes two Outschool-approved third-party tools: FlipGrid, and Google Forms. Parental consent is required for FlipGrid use but learners may also elect to submit videos through Outschool's messaging system as an alternative.
