Robotics for Young Learners Made Simple! (Virtual Dash - Level One)
What's included
4 live meetings
3 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Students will be allowed to continue to program their virtual robots in between meetings. Prior to every class, students can present their projects and the improvements they made in the process.Class Experience
Each session is full of projects based on Passion, Collaboration with Peers, and in a Playful Spirit. It is full of hands-on Memorable, Meaningful, and Motivating activities, specially designed for girls and boys, 5-6 years old. This class is a discovery class where the only academic requirement is a passion for learning and creating. Nevertheless, students must have access to a computer running Dash's Neighborhood. In this online live course, each student will: - Participate in a class with other children his/her age group (5 - 6) discovering how robotics is a part of their everyday life. - Enjoy four hours of personalized project-based instruction. - Learn to design, build, create models that will require an engineer's eye using a robotics platform designed for children. - Collaborate with small groups (5 students maximum per session) with one adult certified live instructor. Syllabus/Topics covered: Week 1 (Intro to Robotics Platform) - Robotics & Robots: + Hardware: Virtual Dash + Software: Control the robot to make sounds & show colorful lights Week 2 (Robots & Coding Platform) + Coding: Program your robot to move straight + Robotics Challenge: Ready, Set, Robots! Week Day 3 (Robotics Engineering) + Coding: Program your robot to turn + Robotics Challenge: Ready, Set, Race Time! Week Day4 (Wrap up / Combining Behaviors) + Coding: Program your robot to combine behaviors + Robotics Challenge: Ready, Set, Action! The 45 minutes classes are incredibly interactive: 10-minute lecture using videos and slides. 25-minute self-paced creation. 10-minute discussion of achievements.
Learning Goals
Robotics is a growing field in our world that is continuously changing and advancing in technology.
In this course, students will have the opportunity to program a virtual robot through various obstacles and challenges presented throughout the class.
For this course, students will be programming Dash using the Dash's Neighborhood. Students can watch their virtual coding turn into tangible learning experiences in real time as Dash, with its performance and multiple sensors, interacts with and responds to its surroundings.
With the guide of an instructor, students will learn that they, too, can be a Robotics Programmer and Engineer.

Parental Guidance
Parents are advised to stay nearby while the class is running to offer technical support in case there is an issue with the internet and/or the platform.
The robot platform is a 3D simulator that runs well on any device, however, it uses a lot of memory resources of the computer.
Zoom meetings sometimes require some troubleshooting.
Supply List
