Class Experience

If you don't see convenient sections listed for this class, please send me time requests. I will do my best to consider your specific time requests as my schedule permits or will send you options. I will respond asap once I see or am notified by Outschool of your request.

This class is Unit 2 of 4 units offered that will introduce a total 12 comprehension skills. Each unit is independent of the other. Enroll in one unit, two units or all units. Also, the units do not need to be taken in order. In this unit, Unit 2, we will target the 3 comprehension skills: Sequencing, Finding Similarities and Differences, and Predicting. This is a great class for those who need to learn or practice auditory and/or reading comprehension.

Day 1 (Sequencing and introduce Finding Similarities and Differences): Being able to determine sequences of events is an important skill to help the reader understand the text. Students will learn how to use time markers and other strategies to determine the order of events.

The ability to compare and contrast within a text is an important skill that helps increase understanding and comprehension. This on Days 1 and 2 the students will learn ways to organize information to help them answer questions about similarities and differences.

Day 2 (Predicting and review Finding Similarities and Differences): Students will discover that prediction is not relying on 'wild guesses' but is using prior knowledge along with well thought out ideas pertaining to the topic and based on information provided. Students will learn how to find and use information in the text to determine probable outcomes and then evaluate those predictions.

Unless the parent/adult notifies me prior to class, each learner will be expected to read aloud during class. If your learner has difficulty reading or does not want to read aloud, no problem, we will work on improving auditory skills. It is best to let me know this as soon as you enroll in class.

Over the years I have loved helping children and teens from 2 years old to 19 improve their speech, language, auditory, phonics, reading and brain fitness skills and much more. I meet my students where they are at their level. As I teach, I adjust to help reluctant learners as well as others who may need or want more challenge. I have decades of experience teaching each of these types of learners within the same class. I try to make my classes engaging and fun. I have a wide range of experience that includes teaching those on the autism spectrum, learning disabled students, add/adhd and many more areas of concern, as well as, experience teaching regular and gifted learners. I have found that patient encouragement in a structured and energetic yet relaxed classroom environment helps learners brains focus to receive information better and helps them become detail oriented.
