In this ongoing class, students will explore short stories through auditory and visual activities. In this teacher led class, students will listen to a variety of short stories told by the teacher with the use of puppets and digital illustrations. The students will then engage in different activities such as: interactive activities to retell the story and games to practice the words in the story. Finally, students will practice their reading skills by reading a short version of the story as choral reading. Short stories are a wonderful ways to build reading skills and provide a student with an engaging learning atmosphere. Students will play group games to assess their comprehension. I believe that when students are given the opportunity to explore and explain a subject in a fun and engaging way, they will be able to retain the information easier. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Weber State University
I am Mrs V, as my classroom students call me. I teach phonics, grammar, science, math, and music classes. I am licensed to teach kindergarten through 6th grade. I also have a minor in music. I taught preschool for 6 years and I did student teaching in kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grades. I have worked part time in the public school system for the last 5 years. I homeschool my two youngest children and enjoy finding fun new ways to teach things. I also teach ESL classes online. I believe that including the student's interests into the lesson engages the learning and makes learning fun and more easily attainable. Fun, hands on activities and games provide an engaging learning environment. My hobbies are animals (I live on a small farm), music (I minored in music), reading and crocheting. I love working with children and seeing the light in their eyes when they learn something new.
