*TEACHER REFUND POLICY (different that Outschool's policy)
I do NOT follow Outschool's "refund only within 24 hours of purchase date" policy for purchases of your learner's first scheduled meeting made MORE THAN ONE WEEK prior to the class start date.
I understand that families like to make plans well ahead of time, but I also understand that plans change and unexpected events/life circumstances happen. Therefore, my refund policy for the intial registration takes these situations into consideration and is a bit more lenient. ****My policy is that for the INITIAL registration, I will refund in full when given notice by the parent that they are withdrawing the learner **NO LESS than ONE WEEK PRIOR (at least 7 days prior) to the scheduled class meeting. After that point, Outschool's refund policy will apply. My personal adjusted teacher refund policy will help families who like to plan ahead and also give me some time to hopefully fill the spot left vacant with last minute learners.
***If you withdraw your learner at least one week prior, you must contact me personally at that time so I can process the refund for you. If you don't, then the Outschool standard refund policy will apply***.

This trial class is a one-time 1:1 tutoring class or 1:2+ for those wishing to register siblings/family in the same class. If you want to register siblings, please contact me so I can send you a special link.

If you don't see a time listed that will work for your learner(s), please send me a schedule request. I have some availability not publicly listed.

This class is designed to help your learner(s) and I get to know each other, ask questions and see a small sample of my teaching style and activities/topics we can cover in more depth if you decide to continue and register your learner in one of my ongoing / enrichment weekly tutoring sessions or one or more of my group classes.

During our time together we may spend a few minutes practicing phonics/sounds, reading fluency and comprehension, language and/or following directions/listening skills/auditory skills/memory skills as well as some brain fitness activities. Also, if your child speaks English as a second language, I am TESOL certified and can help him/her improve English skills and practice correct pronunciation of English sounds/words.

This class is Not a one size fits all class, therefore specific details are not available at this time. I structure my tutoring classes to best fit the needs of your learner. Prior to the scheduled class time, please answer the following question:

What areas you would like to focus on during the class?

If you answer the above question 24 hours prior to class meeting time, a lesson customized for your child will be implemented to practice such topics as: identification (both written and auditory) and pronunciation of phonics sounds and/or reading fluency/comprehension and/or expressive/receptive language skills and/or auditory skills such as comprehension, memory, discrimination, etc.

If registering less than 24 hours before class meeting time or the above question hasn't been answered 24 hours prior, then this session will be a get to know each other session with various activities based on my initial observations of our first few minutes in class. If I receive and read an answer to the above question less than 24 hours prior to class meeting time, I will do my best to address at least some of the areas during our session.

I can practice pronuciation skills related to learning phonics and reading skills with learners. However, Outschool does not allow formal speech therapy on this platform, so this class is Not intended to be considered speech therapy. You are encouraged to seek formal speech-language therapy for your child outside of this platform at your child's school or with a licensed speech-language pathologist at a clinic or in a private setting if this is a concern.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is to help your learner get to know me as a teacher and also learn or practice identification (both written and auditory) and pronunciation of phonics sounds and/or reading skills and/or expressive/receptive language skills and/or auditory skills such as comprehension, memory, discrimination, etc. and/or learn/practice English as a Second Language and/or begin brain fitness training.

I have a wide range of experience that includes teaching those on the autism spectrum, learning disabled students, add/adhd, dyslexic students and those with speech, language, auditory processing disorders and many more areas of concern, as well as, experience teaching regular and gifted learners.

I have found that patient encouragement in a structured and energetic yet relaxed classroom environment help students brains focus to receive information better and helps them become detail oriented students. I strive to help my learners feel comfortable in my classroom as I provide constructive feedback to help guide them as they learn sometimes easy and sometimes challenging concepts.

Over the past 33+ years I have helped children and teens from ages 2 to 19 improve their speech, language, auditory, phonics, reading and brain fitness skills and much more in both public and private schools as well as in my local homeschool community and online. As I worked with students in those settings, during 15 of those years, I also loved homeschooling my own children (most grades K2-12) until they graduated high school. During our homeschool years, I helped teach a variety of classes to homeschool students of all ages who were involved in co-ops. I have provided brain fitness training at a Wellness Center as well. I am TESOL certified and have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) online. The past 4+ years I've also enjoyed teaching my Outschool learners and helping many improve focus/listening/auditory skills, reading fluency, reading comprehension, brain fitness skills and more. Please check out my profile for reviews from parents, grandparents, etc. of some of my current and former learners: https://outschool.com/teachers/KatieI

I have both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and received a Class A (Master's level) teaching certification N-12. I am also an Interactive Metronome Certified Provider (IMCP). Interactive Metronome (IM) is a computer based brain fitness training program.
