Read With Me- 1:1 Class

Reading just 20 minutes a day has many benefits. I would love to read with your learner and help them become better, more confident readers.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 6
Why should a child read 20 minutes a day? There are many wonderful benefits. Here are a few.

1. -exposes kids to a vast quantity of words (1.8 million in each school year, actually!).
2. This vast amount of word exposure will help them to become stronger better writers by allowing them to be more expressive and descriptive.
3. - helps them articulate their thoughts
4. - helps them understand language structures such as sentence structures and figurative language
5. - helps them learn about the world and to ask questions to learn more
6. - encourages them to understand and articulate emotions
7. - increases tests scores
8. - encourages life long reading

During this multi day class, I will give students the opportunity to read while I monitor and guide for fluency and comprehension. I will do point in time intervention such as questioning and prompting for understanding, along with word decoding and meaning. They will be encouraged to read outside of class for 20 minutes a day. I will ask them about their out of class reading each time we meet.

In addition to the above benefits, when children select reading materials themselves and read for enjoyment, they receive the most gains in reading achievement, including better reading comprehension, fluency, and spelling. Also, the longer that this free voluntary reading is practiced, the more consistent and positive the results.

I have a wide variety of books and access to many more. I will list below books and the interest levels that I have immediate access to. If you want me to read with your child, but there is a book they want to read that isn't on my list, I will do my best to get it if I'm given enough time. If you need to know a book's reading level, please message me for more information. I can easily look it up for you.

If we do not finish the book in the allotted days, we can schedule more session to read. I can send a private link to extend our time.

I am an instructional facilitator at a public elementary school. I spend my days working and training classroom teachers on the best practice strategies for students. I will use the same strategies I teach teachers to use when reading with your child. I am skilled at questioning and prompting students to gain a deeper understanding of the text while giving them strategies to help them decode unknown words.
