Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
While reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowery, students will learn some basic facts about life in Denmark during World War 2. In this story, 10 year old Annmarie, and her best friend Ellen, a Jewish girl, learn what it is like to be brave even when the dangers are life threatening.

Students will be asked to read a set of chapters on their own and submit an answer to the classroom of a discussion question. A video will be provided giving the key details for each chapter to aide in comprehension as the story progresses.

Student can test their own comprehension by playing a Blooket game that contains questions testing their inferring skills and use of context clues to determine the meanings of new vocabulary.

If you wish to not respond to the discussion question but would still like to take a quiz, there will be a link provided for each lesson to a Google Forms quiz. It will automatically grade your work and let you see your grade.

Learning Goals

Even though this class provides information about WW2, the goal is to help students sharpen their comprehension skills, but picking out key details, inferring, and gaining new vocabulary words.
