Hello! I'm Matthew and I'm excited to help you with your educational goals!
A little about the classes I teach:
- I teach Languages: English(Masters in TESOL), all levels, and Chinese, specialized for beginners.
- I also teach Math(Bachelors in Econ) especially helping students who seem to be lost find their way.
- Since 2016 I started to add standardized tests to my tutoring schedule. I have tutored dozens of students in each of the following standardized tests: IELTS, TOEFL, ASVAB, SAT
- One of my passions is History and I love to teach it as well. I teach Roman, Ottoman, and English language history.
My Background:
I started tutoring ESL when I was in college way back in 2004. I moved to Thailand to teach ESL in 2007 and taught there for one year. I returned to America and started to learn more about teaching and from 2009-2011 I continued tutoring ESL in the US. In 2012 I went back to Asia and taught ESL at a University in China for 4 years. After that time I decided to get my Masters Degree in TESOL so I came back to the states and recently completed that(summer 2019). From 2016-Today I have been doing small group and one-on-one teaching on the topics listed above.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe in finding ways to get students intrinsically motivated. If a student has no desire to learn it will be a long road but if we can tap into their interests and find something they enjoy in our classes it really propels them along to continually improve.
As far as actual teaching goes I have found that patience and persistence is the key, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY TIMES you make mistakes or get something wrong. What matters is that you continue to get up and try again; if you do that you will conquer any topic.
Me:
I enjoy many things
