Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be to produce some samples of each thing we learn during the week. It will also include reading/listening to examples of Chinese speakers.

Class Experience

We will spend our time on either oral fluency or written fluency depending on what the family/student chooses. We will find points of interest (usually hobbies) that a student can focus their learning on so that they learn things that will be interesting and useful to them. We will interact through the video classroom once a week with an option to do some extra practice spread throughout the week in short 5-minute interactions.

Class time structure:
0-10 min - Teacher-led - Review old words and phrases in the form of a conversation (written or spoken)
10-35 min - Both-led - We will focus this time on learning new material, words or grammar structures, and seeing how it blends into other things we have learned.
35-55 min - Student-led - The student will produce a written/spoken sample putting everything together from prior lessons and today's lesson.

Learning Goals

Each week we will seek to learn 10-15 new words and at least 1 new grammar structure. This will depend on the topics the student/family chooses.

I lived in China for four years where I learned and practiced Chinese each day. My wife is Chinese and I converse with her and her family in Chinese 3-days a week. I have taught dozens of students introductory and intermediate Chinese lessons.

I love to get students into topics they are interested in talking/learning about so that they have some desire to learn other than "because they say so"
