Homework
1 hour per week. I will assign word practice based on the needs of the learner.Assessment
I will start with a pretest to determine what skills your learner has mastered and what he/she needs to work on next. Every 4 weeks, I will reassess your learner and update you on his/her progress.Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Does your child struggle with phonics, reading and/or writing? I am here to help! I am open to scheduling a semester's worth of sessions if that is what you need. (I can also offer private tutoring as a multi-day class.) I start by assessing your learner's letter and sound knowledge, decoding skills, writing ability and reading skills so that I can get to know them as a learner. Based on those assessments, I develop a plan to work on strengthening areas of concern. Skills covered may include letter sounds, syllables, blending and segmenting words, high frequency words and guided writing. I use a variety of hands on, interactive games and word play to make class fun and engaging. The weekly schedule will be based on the what the student needs to work on and will be posted once I have met the learner and analyzed their pretest. I am available to continue the class for a semester at a time and I am available for both on-going and multi-day sections. I require 24 hours notice for cancelled classes. I will do my best to work with you to reschedule when possible. Reach out and let me know what you need! If a learner knows most of their letters and sounds, a SAMPLE schedule would look like this: Week 1: Introductions and Pretest Activities Week 2: Building CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words Week 3: Reviewing CVC words Week 4: Consonant Digraphs (ch, sh, th/th) Week 5: Review Consonant Digraphs Week 6: qu/Review Test-CVC Words Week 7: Two-Syllable Compound Words Week 8: Spelling Rule ff-ll-ss-zz If a learner does not know letters and sounds, a SAMPLE schedule would look like this: Week 1: Introductions and Pretest Activities Week 2: Letters c and o (identifying, sound, and letter formation) Week 3: Letters a and d Week 4: Letters g and m Week 5: Letters l and h Week 6: Letter t and Building Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC) Words Week 7: Letters i and j Week 8: Letters k and p
