US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner - Advanced Level
Come join this interactive, fun class to brush up on your math skills to help get prepared for fourth grade! Class Content: Each week we will meet to review third grade skills. During class we will use a variety of methods and learning styles including hands-on projects, paper assignments, games, visuals, and other activities to help all learners engage and make the most of this class and reinforce skills and help prepare for fourth grade. Why This Class: I have been a brick and mortar teacher for ten years working with all elementary levels. I have seen through experience that summer is a critical time to keep those skills sharp and prevent the summer slide which can set a learner back up to two months in their education. Class Materials: Each week learners will be sent all print outs prior to class. These print outs will include a variety of activities for class. Learners will also need basic supplies available for class. These will include pencils, coloring materials, scissors, and glue. Special Considerations: This class may go over based on group dynamics up to ten minutes but learners are welcome to leave when they need to. Tech usage: During class we may play online games utilizing kahoot. Please ensure you’re student either knows how to split their screen or is fine with pairing up with someone or with me depending on class dynamics. Class Schedule: Day 1: Number of the Day Topic Introduction Hands on Practice Day 2: Number of the Day Topic Continued Practice Pages (this section will follow an I do, We do, You do format, but will be adjusted based on class dynamics) (Mot all practice pages will be used each week. Pages not used during class can be used for optional extra practice) Day 3: Number of the Day Topic Wrap Up Game/Craft Week 1/Week of 6/2: Place Value Review of place value skills Hundreds, tens, ones (introduction to thousands) Showing numbers, number words Rounding Week 2/Week of 6/9: Addition/Subtraction-strategies (standard, estimation, number line, partial sum and difference review up to 4 digits Addition/Subtraction Story Problems (Multi-step) Week 3/Week of 6/16: Multiplication meaning of multiplication arrays, equal groups, helper facts symbols properties Week 4/Week of 6/23: Division break apart strategy, add a group, subtract a group, doubles symbols properties No class week of 6/30 Week 5/Week of 7/7: Fractions parts of a whole number line equivalent and comparing fractions Week 6/Week of 7/14: Measurement-time/graphs time to the minute elapsed time line diagrams picture graphs, story problems, line plots Week 7/Week of 7/21: Measurement-capacity liquid volumes, masses metric units Week 8/Week of 7/28: Geometry 2D and 3D shapes perimeter and area fractions of shapes **story problems will be included throughout the class
