Assignments

1 hour per week. Each class will include 1-2 assignments designed to reinforce the phonics skills covered that day. These may include printable worksheets, short reading exercises, or fun phonics challenges. Assignments are optional but highly encouraged to help solidify learning and boost confidence.

Certificate of Completion

Upon successfully completing the course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion to celebrate their progress in phonics and reading skills. This certificate acknowledges their hard work and achievements throughout the class.

In this interactive and engaging Level 2 class, young readers will explore more advanced phonics patterns through fun games, hands-on activities, and guided practice to boost reading fluency and confidence!

What will be taught?
Over four weeks, students will build on their phonics foundation with a focus on: 
🔹 Vowel teams & diphthongs
🔹 R-controlled vowels
🔹 Multisyllabic words & syllable types
🔹 Prefixes, suffixes & tricky spelling patterns

How is the class structured?
Each 45-minute session will include:
🔹 A warm-up activity to review or preview skills
🔹 Direct instruction with examples and visuals
🔹 Interactive games and group activities
🔹 Guided practice with decoding and spelling
🔹 A fun wrap-up to reinforce new concepts

How will I teach?
This class uses a multi-sensory, student-centered approach. I incorporate visuals, movement, and engaging activities to make phonics fun and accessible. Learners will actively participate by reading, spelling, sorting, and playing their way through each lesson.

This class uses visuals, movement, and repetition to support different learning styles. I’m happy to adjust activities to meet individual needs—just let me know how I can help!

Parental Guidance

This class does not include any content that may be upsetting or require safety precautions. If third-party tools are used, all are kid-friendly, and no account creation is required.

Pre-Requisites

Students should be familiar with short vowels, blends, and digraphs. Prior phonics experience is recommended. Phonics Fun: Level 1 is recommended, but not required.

Supply List

Students will need a pencil, eraser, and a notebook or paper for writing and practicing words. Printable worksheets will be provided during class. Optional: Students may want to have markers or crayons for interactive activities.

External Resources

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

We will use original materials developed by me and interactive phonics games from educational websites like Education.com or ABCYA. All materials used are age-appropriate and designed to enhance phonics learning.

I have extensive experience teaching young learners, having taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade for several years. I also have experience working with kindergarteners transitioning to 1st grade through summer school and STEM camps for 3rd-5th graders. My passion for teaching phonics comes from my background in early childhood education, where I have worked to build strong literacy foundations through hands-on, interactive methods.
