Beginner Level
Pathways to Growth: A Journaling Challenge for Teens is a 30 day self reflection journaling exploration. In this journaling class, students will explore self-reflection, mindfulness, and emotional growth through age-appropriate prompts designed to spark creativity and personal insight. Topics include setting goals, managing stress, navigating friendships, and building self-confidence. The class is structured as a series of guided journaling sessions, with each week focusing on a different theme like embracing change, building connections, and future vision. There will be a different theme every week and daily journal prompts. There will be daily writing prompts that include an assignment, additional ideas, and reflections. Students can expect a flexible, no-pressure environment where they can develop their self-awareness and emotional intelligence. While this is largely an independent class, I’ll be available for questions and feedback.

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University
Hello! I'm Carrie, and I’m thrilled to share my passion for learning with you!
1) What kind of classes do I teach? I offer a range of classes including psychology, poetry, yoga, and foundation classes that include social work principles. My courses blend creative expression with personal development. Whether we're diving into poetry to explore different perspectives or discussing psychological concepts to better understand ourselves and others, my classes are designed to engage the mind and the heart. I love creating a safe space where students can express themselves, learn new skills, and grow in confidence.
2) My professional background: I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and General Business and am currently pursuing a second degree in Social Work. With over 10 years of experience in the social services sector, I have worked extensively with children and families, advocating for their well-being and providing support in challenging situations. I also have homeschooled my own children for the last 8 years. I’m a certified yoga instructor and have been a student of yoga for 15 years, which has greatly influenced my approach to teaching and living mindfully.
3) The values or philosophy behind my teaching: I believe that every student has a unique voice and the potential for growth. My teaching philosophy is rooted in empathy, creativity, and empowerment. I strive to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where students feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions. By integrating mindfulness and self-reflection into my lessons, I help students build resilience and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
4) Something fun and personal! When I’m not teaching, you can find me taking nature walks, swimming, hanging out with my family and dog, Allie, or enjoying a good book. I love mushroom coffee, dad jokes, and polka dots!
