In this course, Jaden will have the opportunity to further develop his appreciation for reading and writing through engaging activities such as discussions, reflections, readings, and creative writing activities.

LEARNING GOALS: to be covered at learner’s pace
--Identify and apply effective reading strategies for different types of texts.
--Analyze and interpret texts at a deeper level, including identifying literary devices and themes.
--Meet text analysis expectations for the classroom and formal assessments.
--Develop critical thinking skills to evaluate and draw conclusions from texts.
--Summarize and synthesize information from multiple sources.
--Build vocabulary and improve language skills.
--Employ literary elements such as point of view, tone, imagery, voice, metaphor, figurative language.
--Develop an appreciation for reading, storytelling, and creative expression.
Mr. L is a 30-year veteran English teacher. He is also a published writer.
Homework Offered
HOME ACTIVITIES: Home activities will vary, but possible activities may include: • reading • analysis • reflections • open-ended questions • story prompts • flash fiction exercises • dialogue exercises • character exercises • conflict exercises • storyboarding/plotting

Assessments Offered
Progress will be assessed as follows: --Learner Questions: Learner will be encouraged to ask questions about the text being read, which can help assess their comprehension of the material. --Discussion: The instructor will facilitate discussion about the text, encouraging the learner to share thoughts and ideas, thus assessing the learner's ability to analyze and interpret the material. --Inferences: Learner will be asked to make inferences based on the text to assess their ability to draw conclusions and make connections between different parts of the material. --Personal Connections: Learner will work through ways to connect with the characters on a personal level, and assess their ability to empathize and relate to the material. --Articulating Importance: When reading nonfiction, the instructor may ask learner to articulate why the material is important and why others should care about it, assessing their ability to analyze and synthesize information.

Learner may wish to have a notebook handy, along with sticky notes and highlighters.
