Please keep this in mind when booking. -------------------------------------------- In this 1:1 novel study, we will dive into a wildly popular and entertaining story, The Wild Robot. This novel is about a shipwrecked robot who learns to survive by observing and befriending the animals native to her new island. Set in the future when crates of robots are carted on cargo ships and climate change kicks up violent storms, the story mixes artificial intelligence with wilderness survival. It remains one of my family's favorite read aloud stories. The course curriculum divides our story into 8 parts (sections) + a final class to review the exam. The learner will complete a homework packet, 4 pages in length, for each section. The class will flow as follows: Prior to Class 1: Read Chapters 1 - 10 & submit Section 1 homework before class. Personalized Certificates of Completion will be sent to each learner following this meeting. 🗓 SCHEDULING 🗓 RESTART is designed to be completed in seven classes. Please keep this in mind when booking. ______________________________________ In this 1:1 novel study, we will dive into a thought provoking middle school nonfiction text, Restart, by bestselling author Gordon Korman. "A boy who's been a bully and hanging out with the wrong friends gets a new start after a memory-loss-inducing accident. But can someone really change who he is, or will the old him merely come back over time?" (Scholastic) The course curriculum divides our story into 6 parts (sections) + a final meeting to review the test. The learner will complete a homework packet, 4 pages in length, for each section. Topics include: identifying main characters and their perspective, theme, making predictions and critical thinking. My teaching style for this class is structured (see below) and also enjoyable as both learner and myself share our different viewpoints of the story as it unfolds. The class will flow as follows: Prior to Class 1: Read Chapters 1-5 & submit Section 1 homework before class During Class 1: We will discuss and review Section 1 homework and read the beginning of the next section together Assignment: Read Chapters 6-10 & submit Section 2 homework During Class 2: We will discuss and review Section 2 homework and read the beginning of the next section together Assignment: Read Chapters 11-15 & submit Section 3 homework During Class 3: We will discuss and review Section 3 homework and read the beginning of the next section together Assignment: Read Chapters 16-20 & submit Section 4 homework During Class 4: We will discuss and review Section 4 homework and read the beginning of the next section together Assignment: Read Chapters 21-25 & submit Section 5 homework During Class 5: We will discuss and review Section 5 homework and read the beginning of the next section together Assignment: Read Chapters 26-30 & submit Section 6 homework During Class 6: We will discuss and review Section 6 homework Assignment: Complete and submit final test (2 pages in length, multiple choice, short answer and long answer questions) During Class 7: We will review the submitted test, discussing our opinions and critiques of the novel as a whole. Certificate of completion provided!
