Class Experience

Welcome to the Monologue Lab, where we will take a deep dive into working on and performing a monologue. Learners can bring a pre-prepared monologue with them to class or together we can find a piece that fits them and their goals well.

We will use detailed script analysis and study the subtext of our monologues to gain a clear understanding of what is being spoken and to bring out a wonderful performance and highlight the great qualities the learner has.

We will work on our voice and improve projection, pace, clarity, breath, emotion and character.

Some characters will require an accent and we will learn how to practice and develop an accent, sometimes by ear and for accents more difficult to grasp with the help of IPA. Accents can be incredibly fun to play with!

Physicality is another aspect we will work with, discovering how our character moves and holds themselves and how we use our movement to strengthen our character and the story.

* If a learner has a monologue prepared, please send it to me via the classroom when you book the class, that way I can utilise the actual class time working on the monologue. However, it is perfectly fine if you would like my help in searching for a piece of text to work on but it will impact the amount of time we have on the piece in the hour and would also mean there is no memorisation.

This class is designed to work around my learners goals. Whether it’s aspiring Actors joining this class, or students wanting to build confidence or even simply learn a cool monologue… We will work it in a way that builds the learner up to reach their own personal targets. This class is all about growth.
Learning Goals
The goals for students in this class will be catered to each individual student through the use of Monologues and script analysis.
