Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
When the actor believes, we believe. The child’s natural instinct for play is the foundation of the actor’s process. Using the game of make believe to get into the “shoes” of the character, we begin to play with the possibilities that game invites in us.

In order to believe I am the character, I must begin to learn all I can about who “I” am in the role: what surrounds and affects me, what I know, where I have been and where I am going; what I want, and what I do to get it or to make it happen.

First part of each class we will go through a brief lecture which may included demonstrations and videos to learn technique and open us up to hone our craft.

Week 1: FIRST class begins with brief relaxation technique and then moves to a sequence of sensory exercises which train the actor’s concentration, ability to respond to imaginary objects, and organic expression. WR WILL THE EXPECT STUDENTS TO DI THESE WARM UPS PRIOR TO CLASS.

The second part of each acting class is devoted to scene work where students apply what they have learned in the exercise work to fulfill the demands of a play and the creation of a role.

Weeks 2-4: Scene, character and relationship development. Activities and exercises to aid in truthful development of all 3. To see is to make others believe. We will work on creating not just the scene, the characters backstory, and any relationships the character has.

Weeks 5-10: We will study and implement the first half of Uta Hagen’s legendary mastery techniques. This is one of the most popular techniques, globally top by master, acting teachers, including ourselves across the globe. Each class we will be implementing some Utah and structure, and of course, working on our scenes as well.

Week 5: The Basic Object Exercise
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen’s The Basic Object Exercises exercise by rehearsing and performing a 300-500 word story of their life. We will be writing out a story of the worst day of our lives and memorizing it and then telling it to somebody in the class. Remember only share something you’re prepared to share. This is a very confidential class and none of what is said in this class is to go outside of the class. Then we will switch, which means somebody the following week Will then take on our as their own.

Week 6: Three Entrances
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen’s Three Entrances exercise by performing this exercise through a contentless scene.

Week 7: Immediacy
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen’s Immediacy exercise by performing immediacy in a 1-minute rehearsed search for a personal valuable.

Week 8: Fourth Wall
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen’s The Fourth Wall exercise by performing a rehearsed telephone conversation, illustrating the function of the secondary fourth wall.

Week 9: Endowment
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen’s Endowment exercise by rehearsing and performing the exercise.

Weeks 9-12: Now is the ultimate fun pulling it all together! This is when you will choose three techniques and incorporate them into your final performance pieces.
