Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Actors in this class will read and discuss a different play each class with other actors! They are encouraged to create dynamic characters using their voices while practicing inflection, emotion, and motivation. Students will not only become more fluent and expressive readers, but they will also become more empathetic actors! (If your child is already a fluent reader and is at least 9 years of age, check out the advanced version of this class here: https://outschool.com/classes/be-in-a-play-every-week-LrfZH83g?usid=U9kF3ayx&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link)

Plays will be chosen based on the number of students enrolled to ensure that everyone has ample parts to read. Plays are approximately 30-45 minutes in length and plays and will include a discussion of characters, sets, costumes, and blocking from the viewpoint of a director (as time permits). Students will read 7-30+ lines each and every effort will be made to make sure that students who read less lines one week will be balanced with more lines the following week! (This class sometimes goes over the allotted time depending on the speed of the readers.)

Plays include (but are not limited to): A Wrinkle in Time, Peter Pan, R.O.M.3.O and Julia, Dorothy and the Thief of Oz, The White Spider's Gift, The Enormous Nose, Rip Van Winkle.
Learning Goals
Students will not only become more fluent and expressive readers, but they will also become more empathetic actors by participating in this reader's theatre class. This is an acting and a reading class. Students will improve his/her reading fluency by following along while other readers read and reading out loud with expression, enthusiasm, and creativity!
