Mind Mapping for Study Skills and Creativity: Introduction ( 8-10 Yo)
In this one time class, students will be introduced to Mind Mapping as invented by Tony Buzan who taught me! They will create two mind maps: how to mind map and all about themselves.

A Hands-On Mind Maps class is really fun especially for artistic and more right brain learners or anyone who does NOT want to use so many words in their note taking. Mind Maps can be used for brainstorming, study skills, planning, organizing, note taking, book reports/reviews, and many other ways. Students create their own hard copy mind maps following my step by step instructions demonstrating it on a white board. They will watch a short video on how to make a mind map. The first mind...
Students will create their own mind maps and get lots of ideas for study techniques and how to use mind maps for their own creativity, learning and memorizing in a fun way. They will learn what mind maps can be used for such as note taking, organization, memory recall, summaries, etc. For those who learn differently, students are welcome to audit this class if they don't feel like doing it hands on due to their slower pace (or dysgraphia), or not wanting to interact or for any other reason not wanting to do the actual mind map during class. They will need to show their face to ensure its indeed a student that is auditing.
I was trained two years in a row by Mr. Tony Buzan, the inventor of mind mapping, as a certified facilitator to teach mind mapping. I have used mind maps for over 20 years and taught many live classes to adults and children about mind mapping strategies. I enjoy creating and using mind maps all the time as they are very effective study strategies and memory aids. For those who learn differently, students are welcome to audit this class if they don't feel like doing it hands on due to their slower pace, or not wanting to interact or for any other reason not wanting to do the actual mind map during class. They will need to show their face to ensure its indeed a student that is auditing.
To continue this skill of mind mapping, I highly recommend they create three or more minds maps and share with me if they wish.
8 X 11 or legal size or larger BLANK papers about 5 and 6 felt pens or markers of different colors medium and or large tip. One student used only one color and it was NOT effective, please discourage them showing up with only a pen and/or pencil. Lined paper interferes with their visual, please do not use any lined paper for the mind mapping.
They will be assessed with immediate feedback when they share their mind map with me on the screen.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please ensure if they are doing the mind mapping they have the materials, one student used only one color and it was NOT effective, nor can they make a mind map with just one color. Please discourage them showing up with only one pen and/or pencil.
