Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
I will teach one-on-one to your child in any concept or skill in math they need to learn. If they don't have a topic or skill identified, I will assess gaps to find out what exactly your child needs help with. These are 10 question assessments that can prepare them also for their next grade level in math. I will make them feel really successful and then challenge them to do even more math. Classes end positively with an enjoyable math game, mostly electronic or with dice or playing cards.

I am trained with high incidence, gifted, twice exceptional, ESL/EAL and learning differently students. I have a lot of patience and allow students to process at their own speed, usually giving them lots of time to come up with their answers. I actually teach them to think through the math. I will teach them math algorithms, that is, how to think in math. It is always a fun, positive and interesting session where your child will feel like a million bucks! They will thank you for having fun with math and will probably want to see me again, so be warned....

If they want them to work ahead, I can prepare them for their next grade and accelerate them as much as possible.

Learning Goals

Students will learn the fundamentals of any math concepts or skills they may be struggling with or want to accelerate in. They will gain confidence in their ability to work with math concepts. They will get lots of practice and learn at their own pace and speed and time.

Learning Needs
As a Math Learning Specialist with Fraser Academy, I am trained to support students with unique learning needs using concrete and digital supports. I can easily accelerate gifted and talented students.
Parental Guidance
Here's the questions you will need to respond to once your child has enrolled and before I begin the first session: Dear Parent, Thank you for choosing me to teach your child, I look forward to doing my best for your family's needs. If you are too busy just answer whatever you want...if you don't reply, I will do a quick math assessment of about 10 questions based on your child's age level. Usually tutoring is sought as they may have gaps. If you are okay to share any kind of special needs and/or learning differences it will help me to engage them at their level of cognition and pacing and language. If they are gifted, please let me know ahead of time by how many grade levels in math so that I can be prepared for it and yes, I can accelerate them too. What can your child do well in math? (add, subtract, multiply, divide, do fractions, do decimals, geometry, etc) What does your child need the most help with in math? (add, subtract, multiply, divide, place value, do fractions, do decimals, geometry, etc) What do you think is your child's grade level in math? Do you want me to assign homework and if so, how much? If not, is it okay to suggest some math games instead of hw? I keep students engaged by using some really good math games to improve and/or practice their math skills The students really like this option and grow tremendously in their math skills. I have games for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, place value, geometry and much more, all at their level. How do you want me to help your child, what do you want me to cover? what are they blocked or frustrated about? any other details? What are their main interests/passions? (for reluctant learners, I can use these to teach them their math): JFYI, I have more time slots available before 3 pm PST. Do you also want me to tutor any other subject including school work? I tutor Language Arts, Science, Socials, etc: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PS: Even though I get paid more in my larger classes, I want to work with students individually as a pay back for them taking my bigger classes, so I don't open up too many of these tutoring sections. Outschool keeps 30% and taxes 20%....you can do the math! Thanks, Nusri Hassam

I am very effective with one to one teaching, tutoring is the best intervention you can provide to your children. I have tutored for the past 20 years with all kinds and types of learners. I love teaching and thrive when I see my students learning so much and having those Aha! or Eureka! moments or thinking that math is fun and want to do more, yay! I treat each student the same way as if they were my own children.
