US Grade 4 - 7
Interactive class with students sharing all they know or want to know about each continent, country and culture through games, videos, slideshows and lots of questions to answer verbally. We will hone in on countries and cultures of interest to them. Students will know and memorize the 7 continents as we review them every week. They really enjoy the Carmen Sandiego Game. The following continents along with main countries will be presented using videos, slides and games in terms of geography, animals, food and cultures; exploring interesting facts from all continents/countries being explored. Students do not need to know anything, just be curious. Students can begin in any week: Week/Class 1/9: Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, or South Africa) Week/Class 2/10: Europe (France, Britain, Italy, Spain, or Portugal) Week/Class 3/11: Asia (India, Pakistan, Singapore, China, or Japan) Week/Class 4/12: North America (USA, Canada or Mexico) Week/Class 5/13: South America (Brazil, Argentina or Peru) Week/Class 6/14: Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and Fiji) Week/Class 7/15: Antarctica (Video trip to the South Pole by a student their age) Week/Class 8/16: Students can choose a country to know more about or present any country they want. Examples chosen include: China, Japan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Poland, Hawaii, Peru, Kenya, Spain and Italy. Students are encouraged to repeat these series, they will go more in-depth or choose other countries to study within that continent. At all times, I value and encourage the students' choices and suggestions and feedback. They have an option to rate the videos with their own star ratings. They look forward to the Geography bingo game in the last 10 - 15 mins and are learning many capitals and flags among other facts for each continent. A certificate of completion can be requested after they attend all 7 Continents Classes.
Learning Goals
Students will learn fascinating and unusual facts to share with others about the country and cultures being studied. For example, a giant eyeball structure, the world's largest rodent, and lots of animals and food/daily life. They will play geo bingo!
