Class Experience

Mnemonics are memory aids or techniques (short cuts) to remember whatever they want to. This class will cover as many mnemonics as possible in a variety of subjects. In 1967, Gerald R. Miller shared a study that mnemonics increased recall: students who knew how to and regularly used mnemonic devices, increased their test scores up to 77%! There are nine types of mnemonic systems: music mnemonics, name mnemonics, word mnemonics, model mnemonics, note organization mnemonics, rhyme mnemonics, image mnemonics, connection mnemonics, and spelling mnemonics. We will use a few of these in the class as per the students' learning styles and preferences.

Students will *very easily* learn how to remember:
1) the colors of the rainbow
2) compass directions in the right order
2) the planets in order from the sun
3) the 7 continents
4) the difference between latitude and longitude
5) how to spell words like parallel easily

At the end of the class, they will play a game to ensure they all remember the mnemonics they have learned in this class. They will also play a memory game to train their brain even more! Warning: Your children will either get addicted to or bug you to find them more mnemonics!
Optional: Other mnemonics include how to remember the 5 great lakes, and NASA. Those interested in math ones, there are mnemonics to remember the 3 hardest multiplication facts as well.
