Description
Class Experience
Students in this course will: -find the Least Common Multiple in order to add and subtract fractions -find the Greatest Common Factor in order to simplify fractions -change mixed numbers to improper fractions in order to multiply and divide fractions
Having taught math for 25 years, I know the importance of being fluent in basic math operations. Each lesson will be scaffolded, in order to provide students with the stepping stones they need to become proficient with these skills. I also have a wide variety of resources at my disposal, in order to offer students the support they need in being successful with these topics.
Because this is a flex class, "homework" will be for students to complete all activities in the lesson prior to the release of the subsequent lessons. Since practice makes perfect, an additional 10 - 30 minutes daily should be spent reviewing the notes taken from each of the lessons- this will help keep the skills fresh for each upcoming topic.
Students should have a 3-ring binder or some type of math notebook in order to keep track of their notes. A PDF will be sent to students via messages in Outschool on Sundays with an outline/directions of all the activities that need to be completed prior to the start of the subsequent lesson.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
At the end of each lesson, a 5-10 problem quiz will be available for students to complete and submit. I will grade these quizzes and provide feedback via Outschool messages (or they will be graded automatically through the quiz generator). I will also respond to comments posted on our class Padlet page, as well as any questions sent to me in Outlook messages.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
