Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 4
Enhancing Literacy Skills

This class is designed to boost your child's reading fluency, comprehension, and spelling abilities through engaging and targeted activities.

Reading and Writing Activities: Each lesson is carefully structured to improve reading fluency, enhance comprehension, and sharpen spelling skills. I incorporate basic phonics introductions and review as needed. Older learners will delve into word morphology, including prefixes, roots, and suffixes, to expand your child's reading skills and vocabulary.

Skill Review and Progression: Every class begins with a quick review of recently learned skills, ensuring that your child has a strong foundation. From there, I introduce a new skill and provide practice through reading and writing exercises. Each lesson builds on previous lessons.

Beginning Readers:
The class starts with simple word games to reinforce previous lessons.
Learners use word tiles to build words, then they use markers to practice spelling words and writing sentences.
Learners end class with a short decodable story or Hide & Seek word game to reinforce the skills learned. Older advanced readers will often use Nearpod activities for review and practice.

Advanced Readers:
Younger readers will play a word game (tic-tac-toe, connect 4) to review previous phonics skills. Older students begin with a skill review using interactive games on Nearpod, ensuring a dynamic learning experience.
- The class focus then shifts to practicing reading and writing new words and sentences. Like my beginner readers, the lesson wraps up with reading a short, decodable text to solidify the day's learning. These texts are often non-fiction which provides academic and content area vocabulary practice.

**Personalized Learning:
- Understanding that each child learns differently, I personalize every lesson to cater to your child's unique needs.
- I also recognize the importance of brain breaks and will incorporate short breaks as needed to keep your child refreshed and focused.

Interactive and Engaging:
- Older students will engage with digital platforms like Nearpod for concept reviews, while younger learners might enjoy a fun game of word tic-tac-toe or other word-related activities to kickstart their lessons.

Allow me to help your child build a strong foundation in literacy in a fun and supportive environment!
