US Grade 1 - 3
Is your child excited about reading? This multi-day class is designed for students who have completed the skills in level 1-5. This class will continue to spark the joy of reading in each learner. Lessons are structured around activities that will meet each child's individual level. My teaching style encourages confidence in readers through interactive fun games, short read alouds, poetry and creating written sentence puzzles. Topics covered will include "phonics clues" that teach sounding out words with vowel teams, syllable types and heart words (Dolch List). I look forward to meeting my new learners and helping each one to continue to become a more fluent reader! Week 1: Ending sounds -sion in television, -tion in nation; syllable types; Heart Words; board games; sentence puzzles; read aloud Week 2: Special 'schwa' sound /a/ as in awake; -ight as in night; syllable types; heart words; board games; sentence puzzles; read aloud Week 3: Combination ending sounds -ink, -ing, -ank, -unk as in think, sing, tank, sunk ; syllable types; heart words; board games; poetry, sentence puzzles; read aloud Week 4: Combination ending sounds -ong, -onk, -ang, -ung as in strong, honk, hang, lung; syllable types; heart words; board games; sentence puzzles; poetry; read aloud
