🏆📚 Welcome to Let's Read! - Reading Comprehension Champion Series! 📚🏆

This flexible series allows learners to discover and practice critical reading comprehension skills each weekend. Regardless of their age, experience, or ability, all learners will benefit from joining in the fun and working towards becoming Reading Champions!

This course is offered every weekend. Each weekend, a new reading comprehension skill is practiced (along with a new text we read together). Whether your learner joins for individual classes or becomes an ongoing member of the Champion series, we will work hard, have fun, and learn lots!

Join an available spot on your ideal day and time, join a waitlist if unavailable, or request desired time to be added (Saturday and Sunday only for this series).

🏆📚 What will be taught? What topics will you cover? 📚🏆

Each session will cover one critical reading comprehension skill. These skills range from summarizing, inferencing, using text features, analyzing text structure, and more!

This series may support and challenge skills that some learners are familiar with or need to strengthen, or it may extend and enrich the reading comprehension skills for others. This unique style of class is appropriate for learners of all ages and abilities!

The schedule of Champion Series comprehension skills can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ngnh0zARFRZToSjHhwvQwA4B-Ns8SYVP3Rm4er2O5HY/edit?usp=sharing

🏆📚 How is the class structured? 📚🏆

Our agenda is:
- Welcome (building rapport, establishing routines, 5 min)
- Skill (introduce and explain target comprehension skill, 10-15 min)
- Read (read story together, practice using target skill, 10-15 min)
- Wrap-Up (finalize target skill practice, 5 min)
- Open Questions (learners can seek clarification or help, 5 min)
- Optional Practice Task (learners can practice target skill in a scored task)

(As this is a multi-learner session, we have ~5 min. built into the beginning to allow learners to connect and troubleshoot technology. Depending on pacing, we may finish in 40 min. instead of 45)

🏆📚 How will I teach? What's my teaching style? 📚🏆

I keep things moving! I teach with a brisk pace and use learner-friendly language and tone. My goal is that when students join me for my Champion Series, they engage with it, enjoy it, and want to come back next weekend for more!

🏆📚How much will learners get to interact with me? 📚🏆

Learners may...
- answer a fun welcome question
- follow along with my screenshared presentation.
- use the reactions and hand raising features of Zoom.
- volunteer to answer questions as we read and practice our target skill.
- take notes about the skill and text. (older learners)
- watch a brief video about target skill.
- read along to self or aloud (muted) during shared reading.
- complete a short practice task (scored)
- ask clarification questions during open question time at the end of session
