⭐In this ongoing academic class learners will practice reading, blending, and writing CVC words through fun and engaging lessons each week. This is a great class for beginning readers who know most of their letter sounds and are ready to begin blending those sounds to read words. ⭐This class is structured similarly each week. The lesson content follows the same pattern so learners are familiar with how each word family is introduced and the blending procedures. This helps learners become more proficient readers and grow in their confidence. CLASS STRUCTURE 🎶Welcome Song 🤚Class Rules 🔤Sounds of Letters Song 🚂Introduce New Word Family and Load the Train 🐝Begin to Blend CVC Words with Benny the Bee ✏️Write and Spell CVC Words 🎉Game Time - Practice Reading with Fun Games (these games change each class to keep things fun and exciting for learners) ⭐This is an ongoing class that learners can join at any time. The content repeats every 20 weeks, but learners are welcome to jump in anywhere. Your learner can also continue the class once they have been through all the word families to improve their fluency and gain extra practice with reading, writing, and blending to help build their reading confidence. ⭐This class is very interactive! Please be sure your child knows how to use the annotation (writing) feature to write on the screen or have someone nearby to help them. There are times when I will call on students and allow each child a chance to interact with the slides in one form or another. This helps keep learners engaged and they love to participate in the activities! 📄After class each week I will provide additional activities for your learner to complete if they would like more practice with our word family. These activities are optional and not required as part of our class. They can be printed and completed outside of class. I offer multiple activities so that there is a variety to choose from, I also include both black and white as well as color options for printing. This is a great way to help your learner become more confident in their reading skills and also provides more writing practice. 🔊MUTE NOTICE: I prefer to keep learners off mute during this class so that everyone can participate. We talk about making sure we raise our hands in class and use our listening ears. However, if there is background noise that is distracting to our class I will occasionally need to mute a student. Please be sure your learner knows how to unmute or that they have someone nearby to help them. Here is a breakdown of each lesson component for this class: 🎶Class begins with a welcome song that allows each child to be greeted by name with one of our class puppets. It is important to me as a teacher to help every learner feel welcome and comfortable in class. We sing and welcome each child by name. The class can join and sing along to welcome all our learners. 🤚We take a moment at the beginning of class to remind everyone about our class rules of waiting until it is your turn to talk, using our listening ears, raising our hands if we have a question, and respecting everyone in our class. 🔤I believe it's important for beginning readers to continue practicing the sounds of the letters. We will sing our phonics song as we watch it come to life on screen. This activity is fun and engaging for learners, and gets their bodies up and moving as well! 🚂After our phonics song we will introduce our new word family by first discussing the individual letters and their sounds. Then we will travel to the train station where we will listen for words that belong to our word family. We will load these words onto our word family train. This is a very fun activity to introduce our new word family and get each learner's brain ready to begin blending these new words. 🐝Benny the Bee is a friendly bee who helps us begin to blend and read our new words. We will see new words on the screen that Benny the Bee with help us blend and read together. It is especially fun when Benny gives us a fist bump after we read each of our words correctly! ✏️During our writing time each learner will have an opportunity to interact with Benny the Bee on screen. In this activity we will be identifying the beginning consonant of the words in our new word family, reading the word together, and then practicing our writing. Each learner will have an opportunity to write on the screen. This helps children with learning to take turns and most students love the opportunity to write on the screen. I do ask all learners to write on their own paper or board as well, even when it is not their turn to write on the screen. Please be sure you are nearby to help your learner if they are not familiar with how to use the annotation (writing) function. If your learner does not want to write on the screen, that is perfectly ok as well! This class is very flexible and it's highly important to me that each learner feels comfortable and enjoys their time in my class. 🎉Game Time!! Once we have finished our lessons, the remainder of our class time is for playing games to reinforce reading our new word family words. This part of class will be slightly different each week as I rotate games to keep things exciting and fun for everyone! We play search and find, hide and seek, crack the code, roll and read, and other games that will keep each learner engaged and improve their reading fluency and confidence. These games are very interactive and often a favorite part of class for everyone! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, Outschool parents and learners! My name is Miss Kristi! I am a teacher at heart who is passionate about working with preschool and early elementary age learners, teaching them foundational skills in reading, writing, and math in a fun and engaging way! I am a homeschool mom to my 16-year-old son, who is now taking full-time college classes. I have a Bachelor of Psychology degree with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education, Abnormal Psychology, and Family & Child Dynamics, which allows me to have a better understanding of where children are academically and psychologically at different ages. I have enjoyed homeschooling my son for the past 13 years and worked with many other children in an educational setting including preschool classes, homeschool co-ops, and substitute teaching pre-k through third grade in our local elementary schools. Teaching is my passion, and I desire to instill a love of learning in all learners by creating multi-sensory activities, games, and interactive lessons that teach foundational skills to young learners. Come join me for engaging, educational lessons, where we will learn and grow together while having fun every step of the way!
