Class Experience

This class is for kids who like to use a variety of materials to create, explore and express their ideas.

In this class, we share ideas, get new inspiration and spend time working on our creative projects. It is a great place to connect with other creative kids!

To stretch our thinking about the projects we create, every week I share images or video clips from artists, nature or craftspeople that connect with the monthly topic (see list below). Then we spend the rest of the class using our materials to create.

Class members can choose to create something related to the monthly topic or they can work on a project of their choice. Learners are welcome to bring projects in progress to share and work on during class.

Please note that I will not be leading the class step by step through a specific project. I will help brainstorm, problem solve and provide lots of support and encouragement. The main focus of this class is unleashing creativity, sharing ideas and getting new inspiration. It is also to explore different ways to use materials and to express our ideas and connect with other creative kids.

New learners are welcome to join at any time! Stay for a week, a month or continue all year long!

Each class will be divided into these parts:
Sharing: a recent project, a project in progress, or the materials you brought to class
Inspiration and/or Brainstorming: I share images or examples related to the monthly topic (see below)
Time to work independently on our projects: as we work learners can talk about their projects, ask for ideas and help from the group, as well as share their progress.

I have been an educator for 20 years and am inspired by the Reggio approach. There is so much learning that is naturally connected to children’s open-ended use of materials. I see all children as capable individuals who are motivated to learn when their interests are honored and they are encouraged to make their own discoveries.
