During our weekly class, students will practise combining letter sounds to read CVC words. Although this is an ongoing class, you are welcome to join the fun at anytime! We typically spend 15 minutes socializing and 25 minutes reading. It's a great atmosphere for students who enjoy socializing or want to work on social skills. I use the following methods to help your child comprehend and remember what they learn in my classroom. Each method is used in varying degrees depending on learner needs. I change my teaching method as required to keep each child engaged: *Rehearsal, memorization *Role reversal - The students teach each other and the teacher *Visual memory games *Active reading *Multi-sensory activities *Making connections- We will relate the lesson to each of our everyday lives when possible Beginning: Introductions - Peer to peer conversation is encouraged as much as possible in my classes. We will begin with show and tell and take turns asking each other questions so we can get to know our new friends. After a few classes together, learners know the routine and often think of a question for one of their classmates without my prompts :) After our introduction Q&A we will practise each letter sound individually. **** Please note, your child should know letter sounds before class. This is a quick review intended to help everyone focus on these specific letter sounds before we proceed. I also offer a preschool readiness class that focuses on letter sounds! Middle: Vowels are often challenging for beginners because they've only listened to the vowel sounds for the first few years of life, which can be difficult to differentiate by sound alone. To enhance comprehension, each student will practise reading sentences and solving puzzles with CVC words throughout the lesson. Students will learn effectively while they see a related image, hear the word and see the letters simultaneously. End: My goal is for your child to leave class with the ability to recognize and read our new CVC word family with confidence. We will end each class with a fun word family game. The student keep winning against the teacher! A weekly printout of the word families and an optional practise worksheet for after class will be posted in the classroom. Students without a printer can participate by writing on a sheet of paper. Students can always read along with us on the screen too! Hi!
I'm Ms. Sara. I am so excited to be here. I have adored children since I was still a child myself. I have worked with children consistently for over 15 years. I live with my family in Nova Scotia, Canada on a small hobby farm. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Human Resources Graduate Diploma. I’ve also completed Child Development and Child Psychology courses in my spare time… before I was chasing 4 children of my own! Prior to joining Outschool I was working with teachers in our local schools and desperately missed teaching children myself. No matter my educational background or experience, I have always returned to working with children. Knowing I am involved in a child's early education and social emotional learning is the ultimate reward. We moved to a rural area in 2018 so I closed my home-based preschool and began teaching online. This is my passion and my full-time, permanent career. Thank you so much for supporting my dream job! I love teaching and I am so excited to share my classes with all of you! I am an energetic teacher and a child at heart. My classes are often social and positive. During class learners will make connections with new friends and learn together as much as possible. Please reach out if you have any questions.
I'm looking forward to meeting your wonderful child!
Sincerely,
Ms. Sara
