Beginner Level
This course will focus on phonological awareness skills, and spelling and reading CVC words. This course is perfect for students that have mastered their letter names and sounds and are ready to begin blending them together to learn to read! We will continue to review letter names and sounds, so it is not necessary that your child has all of them mastered prior to beginning this course. Your child will build confidence with their reading as they will not be expected to guess at words or read words that they have not been taught the phonics skills to read. It will be amazing to see your child become a reader throughout this course! We will use research based science of reading practices as students learning to read and spell words. These practices include a strong phonics based approach( learning the rules behind spelling patterns), using mirrors to make sure to have the correct letter sounds, learning heart words, orthographic mapping, learning catchy stories to help remember letter sounds, and using decodable texts. Students will learn the short vowel sounds and be able to read and write CVC words through explicit instruction with a certified elementary teacher. Having a whiteboard and dry erase marker are helpful, but not necessary. Any writing utensil and material to write on will work! Learners can join this course at any time-although some material builds upon what we have already learned, we will continue to review!
Learning Goals
Students will increase phonemic awareness skills while they learn to read and spell CVC words in isolation and in a sentence structure through the use of decodable texts.
Your child will begin blending letter sounds together to read!
