Hello and thanks for stopping by! Welcome to our Montessori inspired virtual classroom where we learn life skills and age appropriate curriculum together while having fun. Ms. Sara's classroom is positive, welcoming and social. We love coloring and playing games! I teach using stories, slideshows, short videos, songs and role-play. Most of all, I use hands-on activities! More often than not, we are engaging as a class rather than looking at a presentation or video. Each day of the week is dedicated to a different subject. Learners can join or cancel at any time throughout the course. Monday: English Language Arts Tuesday: Health & Science Wednesday: Math Thursday: Life Skills and Show & Tell Each week we focus on a specific theme. The daily lesson will be related to the weekly theme. Week of September 11: Colors Week of September 20: Birds Week of September 27: All About Me Week of October 4: Butterflies Week of October 10: Family Week of October 17: Marsupials Week of October 25: Exercise Week of November 1: Friendship Week of November 8: The Moon Week of November 15: Hygiene Independence Week of November 22: Frogs Examples of each subject are listed below: English Language Arts: Tracing letters, practising letter sounds, reading comprehension, puppet shows Health & Science: Brushing our teeth, digestion, skeletal system, animal classification (note: Ms. Sara LOVES biology so you’ll become brilliant biologists!) Math: Counting, patterns, number recognition, addition and subtraction, sorting Show & Tell: Foster friendships and understanding through show and tell, social games and getting to know each other Life Skills: Tying laces, measuring, recycling, respect, manners, mindfulness My goal is for your child to gain the skills required for lifetime of self-guided learning. As they show interest in different things around them, I will guide their curiosity with fun education. In the virtual classroom we use components of a Montessori classroom by finding common household objects to nurture engagement and understanding during class. Our pace and lessons will vary depending on the needs of each student and the class as a whole. Parents, I'd love to work together to make sure your child is accommodated in my classroom if required. Please reach out and we can make a plan together! ESL students are always welcome to join the fun ☺️ During this class students are allowed to freely speak and engage with the teacher and other students. Mute is often optional. Materials are optional. If possible, I recommend gathering all materials together in a specified bin or space so you can be prepared for every class with ease! I stick to this list as much as possible so we can all have an easier time organizing your child's education ;) These are NOT required! I can help include your child by giving them a helper role or another activity based on our lesson. Please don't stress about gathering everything together! We do not use these items daily. 1. Play-doh - Only need 1 container but more is fine too! 2. Popsicle sticks or craft sticks 3. Crayons, Markers or Pencil Crayons 4. Pencil & Eraser 5. White or lined paper. This can be in a scribbler, binder or duo-tang if you'd like 6. Safety Scissors (all plastic- unless you're comfortable with sharper versions) 7. Glue stick I look forward to seeing you! ****Don't see a time that works for you? I own a Virtual School called Friendship Haven. I have trained 2 great teachers to teach this same class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Cape Breton University
I have over 20 years of experience working with children and have proudly held the titles of Babysitter, Nanny, Mother's Helper, Early Childhood Educator, Preschool teacher, ESL teacher and Dayhome Owner/Operator. I chose which University I'd attend based on which one would hire me at their daycare. I would work between classes and also babysat in my dorm room on weekends! I have taught many growing minds and my passion for working with parents to educate their children continues to grow as my experience and knowledge expands more and more. I have completed 6 years of University and completed 2 degrees focusing on Sociology and Psychology but experience and patience have been my best teachers along with the many children and mentors I've met throughout my career.
