Description
Class Experience
This is a class for students who are READY TO READ and have learned their letters and phonics sounds. If you are looking for our first semester class (level 1) which prepares students for this class and moves them to the ready to read level, you can find it through this link. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out. I'm always happy to help and want to make sure we place students in the correct class. Happy Learning, Teacher...
Students will enjoy learning through songs and review advanced material that will prepare them to be readers with a strong foundation. Each student will sharpen foundational skills such as letter recognition, phonics, and numbers. We will practice properly tracing words, sight words, and begin simple sentence writing. Each week, we will also incorporate a critical thinking skill such as the following: -the five senses -rhyming words -positional words such as "above, below, in front, behind" -more or less -big or small -long and short -up or down -in or out -hot or cold -matching skills - what's different/the same? -patterns -comprehension skills -following directions
I have been in education for over 20 years and have had the privilege of teaching little ones how to read and write. I also have experience teaching online for the past three years. Here is what some of my parents have to say about my classes: "I'm very glad to meet Miss Lisa. This class is very interesting. Thank you for your patience and correcting my child's pronunciation in time. Look forward to seeing you again." Vivian's mom. 7/3/2020 "The teacher has done a good job." Elsa's mom. 6/16/2020 "The teacher has patience and expansion. Thank you Miss Lisa." Elena's mom. 3/11/2020
There is no homework for this class, however, I provide helpful worksheets each week to download for letter blends, words, sentences, and math skills. *Worksheets and the weekly schedule are made available on the class page every Monday morning.
Throughout the course of this class, we will use the following. Any variation of the following is fine. 1. Worksheets from the class page are used in each class. If printing the worksheets is not possible, a white board or tracing paper is just as helpful. You can downloaded PreK tracing paper for free. 2. A pencil with a preschool/kindergarten grip will also be helpful for correct finger holding. These can be found among school supplies at stores like Target and Walmart. 3. Basic and big crayons- NEEDED in EVERY CLASS.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Upon request, parents will be given feedback detailing strengths and weaknesses of their students.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
With young students, a parent nearby can help in case a child needs assistance or help staying attentive. Also, please help your student with the mute and unmute functions in zoom. I do mute students while singing or if backgrounds become noisy, but I cannot unmute students in the classroom.
