Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
This class focuses on how lines work together to create simple as well as more detailed drawings. It is up to each student to decide how much detail they would like to add to their piece. There are two options for reference material: the first option includes a personal choice: pets, favorite characters, cartoons, etc., which should be available to view often during class, printed or on a device. I ask that this image be sent to my email prior to class. The second option includes viewing my resources at the start of class and choosing one, after which I will send the image to the learner’s email. This image can also be printed or on a device. During the course of class, I visit with each student to discuss corrections and suggestions for improvement. My drawing is visible the entire time.
My teaching style is sequential, so I do not proceed to teach the next step until the previous one is completed and evaluated together with the student. They work at their own pace and are not required to make changes unless they are comfortable doing so. I understand this will vary, depending on the skill level they bring to class. Interaction with myself and other students is allowed throughout the lesson, provided they will remain focused on their work. Neurodiverse students are welcome! I am fully aware of the positive emotional effects the creative arts have on the cognitive and behaviorally challenged. Thus, I ensure the nature of the class accommodates the specific needs of all students. In addition, I believe having the option to choose their subject contributes toward sustained excitement and motivation regarding their entire class experience.
Learning Goals
Students gain an understanding about how everything consists of lines and shapes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a lifelong, self- taught artist, beginning at a very young age. I received 3 years of advanced art instruction in secondary school. My experience includes selling my work in an art gallery which I owned and operated. I continue to be privately commissioned and give pieces as gifts. Prior to retiring from working in special education, I applied my skills in the form of art therapy for behaviorally challenged children in the classroom setting.
