Assessment is informal. It is based on the specific stages of each student’s drawing reached outside of class, should they desire to work between classes. In this case, they are welcome to send me snapshots via Outschool email for evaluation. This option is convenient especially for students who miss class due to illness or a vacation. Assessments are also made during class after each step pertaining to each student’s drawing is completed.Class Experience
The subject taught is basic drawing. Each student has the opportunity to choose their subject and to add as much or as little detail as they prefer. This includes a pet, favorite animal, a cartoon character, a family member, or even a self-portrait. I request that students have a picture printed out, available as a photo, or on a device before class begins, as well as to send me the image via email using the teacher tab on the learner page. It will be used as a constant reference during instruction. General source materials are provided as options, which I will send to the student’s email. During the course of class, I will work with each student step- by -step, using an overhead camera and share screen, including suggestions for improvement. My drawings are visible the entire time. My teaching style is sequential, so I do not proceed to teach the next step until the previous one is completed and evaluated. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and receive guidance as needed or when requested. I understand this will vary, depending on the skill level they will bring to class. Drawings are usually completed within 2-3 classes, depending on the details a student would like to include. Since each student will be working on a different drawing and will have varying degrees of skill, the length of time toward completion will also vary. This enables the opportunity to enroll or stop their subscription at any time. Being that each student can choose the image they would like to create, there is no weekly theme or topic. Thus, the class is student- directed. Interaction with myself and fellow students is allowed throughout the lesson, provided they will be able to remain focused on their work. Students are also welcome to share tips. All they need to bring to class are their materials, abilities, and of course, an eagerness to learn! They are encouraged to offer suggestions to me regarding what they would like to draw during the next class, if they stay enrolled, and if the current drawing is completed. Neurodiverse students are welcome! I am fully aware of the positive emotional effects the creative arts have on the cognitive and behaviorally challenged. Thus, I ensure the nature of the class accommodates the specific needs of all students. In addition, I believe having the option to choose contributes toward inspiration, enthusiasm, and motivation regarding their entire class experience.
Learning Goals
Students learn about shapes and lines that comprise the subject, and how their combination contribute toward completion.
Shading and blending techniques using specific tools are learned.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a lifelong, self- taught artist, beginning at a very young age. I received 3 years of advanced art instruction in secondary school. My experience includes selling my work in an art gallery which I owned and operated. I continue to be privately commissioned and give pieces as gifts. Prior to retiring from working in special education, I applied my skills in the form of art therapy for behaviorally challenged children in the classroom setting.
