Assessment upon completionClass Experience
This class is for students at the intermediate or advanced level who desire to develop their artistic skills more precisely. We will explore a variety of mediums, or one in particular, depending on the student’s choice. These include: graphite or colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, pastels, and ink. However, because drawing is usually the preliminary step, this skill should be learned first. The one-on- one platform provides the opportunity to concentrate on preferred techniques, with the student being able to choose what they would like to create. It could be an animal, a favorite character, a family member, or even a self- portrait. The subject should be chosen prior to class, as well as having the image available as a photo, a printed picture, or on a device. It will be used as constant reference during instruction. The goal is for the student to accurately learn how to interpret the image as their own creation using a desired medium. We will be taking our time with each step involved within a skill until the desired effect is achieved. (The specific skill that will be focused on each week is listed below.) The student will communicate what goals they would like to reach, and we will build on developing them. Progress is based on the stage the student reaches with their project, with consistent evaluation from me throughout the lesson. The goals include proper proportion, likeness accuracy, shading, etc. I will be screen sharing the desired image and by using annotation, I will be demonstrating how to determine the shapes and lines contributing to proportion. Values and shading will be learned next. My work will be visible throughout using an over-head camera. Goals related to other mediums mentioned will be discussed and facilitated. Neurodiverse students are welcome! The pace and nature of the class lends itself to the specific needs of the student, toward which I am more than willing to make accommodations. I believe having the option to choose contributes toward inspiration, enthusiasm, and motivation regarding their entire class experience. I would love to guide your learner toward discovering their artistic potential!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a lifelong, self- taught artist, beginning at a very young age. I received 3 years of advanced art instruction in secondary school. My experience includes selling my work in an art gallery which I owned and operated. I continue to be privately commissioned and give pieces as gifts. Prior to retiring from working in special education, I applied my skills in the form of art therapy for behaviorally challenged children in the classroom setting.
