It is very important in pre-k / kindergarten to start the day with a morning meeting. It is an invaluable practice that will set up the children for success and prepare the students for learning. Morning Routine builds confidence and independence in young learners and improve literacy skills and following directions. We begin our day with a greeting song that teaches life skills and builds a sense of community. Through Math Their Way the students will learn the days of the week, months of the year, number recognition, place value and patterns. A read aloud is done daily during morning routine and I use a big book to teach concepts of print. Morning Message is another actively I will do during morning meeting. It is a literacy practice that introduces the students to the writing process. I teach and model the think aloud process so that they will understand the connection between written and oral language more clearly. They will be observing concepts of print first hand. Shared Reading is done during morning routine and the students will listen to the big book read by me and through the big book the students will learn about concepts of print, comprehension, and many other reading skills.
