US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
A read aloud is an instructional practice that can teach students reading with a variety different texts that have rich language, grammar, vocabulary, and phonemic awareness. It also helps the students learn comprehension skills. A read aloud is a valuable activity to do with students who are entering kindergarten or are emergent readers. The read aloud model ensures that these young learners become familiar with vocabulary words early in life and exposes them to many early reading skills. Through the read aloud the students will learn about letter-sounds, rhyming, and fluency. The students will have the opportunity to read books and listen to the sounds and rhyme of the language in the books they will read. We will also discuss the text together. The students will become strategic readers with strong comprehension skills during these interactive read alouds. This means that we will have meaningful conversation about the text. The read alouds help students with fluency and understanding. They will learn to read accurately quickly and with expression. Students will read text at their independent level and practice speed and expression rather than just decoding. These skills will also help with comprehension.
Learning Goals
1.The students will incorporate tone when reading with the teacher.
2. The students will learn new vocabulary from the book.
3. The students will engage in discussion about the book.
4.The students will develop understanding of the stories we read.
