:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
How is your class structured?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
We will meet in zoom for 45 minutes, once a week.

The class will use the newest edition of a textbook and a workbook.

Students will not be able to participate in class without the purchase of a textbook and a workbook.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
How will you teach?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
On zoom through Outschool platform.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
What's your teaching style?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Easy-going, but perhaps because of the subject I teach, most students are really respectful, which I truly appreciate.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Learning a foreign language is all about interaction!! There will be interactive class activities for informal assessments. Pair activities/assignments are designed to develop each student's 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. If you are a home school student who is looking for a formal assignment grades, I will be happy to work with you (but I need to know what is expected).

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This is a class taught with textbook and workbooks that are used in high schools in the U.S., as well as in universities. Students will spend time learning vocabulary as well as working on home works from the workbook, and recommended materials created by the teacher. Please note that since this is a class taught with a textbook that is used for both high schools and universities, younger students may find it challenging. This is a class for dedicated learners which require work and dedication :)

If the student has learned Japanese for a year with a college level 1 textbook, this should be a good class.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to comprehend written, audio, audiovisual, and visual text.
Students will be able to make interdisciplinary and cultural connections.
Students will be able to communicate interpersonally by speaking with others.
Students will be able to communicate interpersonally by writing to others.
Students will be able to communicate through spoken presentations.
Students will be able to communicate through written presentations.

Certified teacher for Japanese (EC-12), Mandarin(EC-12) and Art(EC-12). I grew up speaking Japanese, Mandarin and Taiwanese, so I have no problem mixing them up to meet your need. Many years of freelance tutoring experience for Japanese and Mandarin have helped me teaching all levels of Japanese including Pre-AP and AP classes at my former employment at a public high school.

I am also experienced in curriculum building for 4 years of Japanese language education based on ACTFL proficiency standards as a former school teacher. As I teach more and more students from all over the world, I have become more familiar with CEFR rating as well as GCSE tiers.

I am an active board member of JTAT(Japanese Teacher's Association of Texas) and I host workshop webinars for JTAT members as well as give presentations at foreign language teachers' conferences to offer opportunities to learn new skills, new strategies, and best practices.
