Class Experience

Bonjour, et bienvenue! This course offers an introduction to the French language for beginners. This is a follow-up course to my “Introduction to French - Part 2” class. If your child hasn’t taken Part 1 or 2, in order to enroll in this class, they will need to be able to: introduce themselves (name, age, how they are feeling), count to 10, colors, talk about what they like (“J’aime _____” and “Je n’aime pas ____”), talk about the weather, basic food vocabulary, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, and basic clothing. These topics will be applied in our conversations with the new vocabulary below. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send me a message

Our weekly themes will be as follows:

Class 1: The verb “avoir” (to have)
Class 2: Parts of the Body
Class 3: Describing People
Class 4: Telling Time
Class 5: Daily Routines
Class 6: Shopping (Buying things & cost)

In class, I use a call and response method that is mostly immersion — I try to use little English, and encourage students to understand French with the use of relia, gestures, or visuals on the slides. Each student will have a chance to repeat new vocabulary words individually, working on pronunciation, and then will apply these words in sentences as well as questions. Students will be guided to ask each other questions. Through the use of learning materials such as slides, GIFs, gestures, and props, most students should be able to understand the sentence frames and vocabulary.

I will model full sentences for them to gain confidence expressing themselves and provide error correction in a positive way as needed. This class will be an important prerequisite for any student looking to join a more casual French conversation club.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

*** PLEASE NOTE ** :
When enrolling, check the dates and times listed for each section. Some sections may meet 1x/week or others 2x/week in order to accommodate a wider variety of learner scheduling needs. ***

Learning Goals
