Class Experience

There will be weekly labs/homework assigned that includes recipe analysis, a food label scavenger hunt, and food labs. Please see the supply list for ingredients. Please see the course description of what your homework will be. 
learners will need a calculator, binder, pen/pencil, access to the internet, and grocery supply list (see below - A PDF copy will be posted to the classroom). Learners will receive notes/handouts for each lesson by the instructor so purchasing a textbook is not necessary. Grocery list: Flour cold water salt sugar Three small glasses of water tablespoon Q-tips mixing container (plastic or metal - at least 1 quart) 1 Quart bottle or 4 cups (glass bottle such as a milk bottle) strainer plastic bag (storage of extracted gluten 3-5 eggs 4 cup sugar 1/4 cup starch 1 1/8 tsp salt 2 3/4 cup milk 1 cup plus 2 tbsp butter 2 tsp vanilla 3 tbsp cocoa 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder various fruits or veggies for drying out (apples, spinach, potatoes etc) Can pick one method: Oven, microwave, dehydrator or plenty of sun, knife for cutting, cutting board powered milk 1-gallon whole milk lemon juice 1/2 tsp citric acid (optional) 4-6 quart pan stirring spoon bleach liquid and dry measuring cups thermos measuring spoons large pan cooking thermometer colander cheesecloth Piece of meat dry active yeast 1/3 cup vegetable oil
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
