Introduction to Cells: a Project and Discussion Based Course for Middle School

In this class, we learn about cells through very interactive lectures. We use Power Point presentations and 3D visuals, with an abundance of examples while students are encouraged to think like scientists and cultivate their curiosity. They will apply the scientific method, work collaboratively with partners to solve problems, participate in class discussions and projects, make models using simple materials, etc.

Despite the complexity of science and the interrelationships among topics, this curriculum does not build upon previous lessons. Lessons are rather crafted for learners to join at any time and topics will circle back at the end of the curriculum. Each session will start with a 20 minutes introduction followed by learners centered activities and class discussions. 

The pace of this program might be adjusted to meet learner's need and some modification to the timeline could apply. Reading materials and handouts will be provided as well as a list of materials to make the scientific models (optional).
