Our program will open the doors to the Spanish language and culture with fun lessons and a rich curriculum. Together, we will learn Spanish for beginners through interactive lectures, taught from a cultural perspective and with a focus on oral communication. We will use didactict presentations with many visuals for context clues and interesting topics followed by student centered activities such as role playing and games. Students will have the opportunity to participate in class discussions and conversations with a partner, all in a relaxed atmosphere. Reading assignments and a list of the vocabulary and grammar for the lesson will be provided for individual practice as well as homework. We will assign different activities to be completed for personalized feedback such as cultural videos and audio recordings with questions, oral practice and short projects. Learners will practice reading, speaking and writing. All instructional materials will be provided and will be available through the Outschool classroom. Each grammar or vocabulary topic will be presented from a culturally rich perspective. We will learn about different regions from the hispanic world and will start every lesson with a cultural topic that will be used as a context to present and practice the vocabulary and the grammar. Instructions and grammar explanations will be given in English, specially at the beginning, but learners will immerse in the language from day one. Level appropriate activities facilitate exposure to the language and will translate into fluency and vocabulary memorization. A typical lesson begins with a grammar or vocabulary presentation, followed by students practice and communicative activities. Assessment will take place in the form of quizzes, writing assignments and short oral interviews or recordings. These will be completely optional.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the foundations of the Spanish language: Grammar & Vocabulary to cover the entire first year curriculum.
