Intro to the Recorder and Music Reading

The recorder is one of the oldest instruments known to man. Flutes, recorders, and drums were found among the first remains of humans. Creating music continues to be an important skill for many people. It can help channel emotions, improve fine motor skills, help with breathing, improve you ability to do multiple tasks at the same time, and do much more.

Students in this class will spend time learning about the musical staff, how to read notes and rhythms, and then how to transfer this knowledge to the recorder. 

This is an introductory class to learn a little bit about the recorder and music and to see if it is a subject you would love to pursue. A semester class is available for those wanting to learn more notes and songs and feel confident in their recorder playing.

By the end of the class students will be able to:
-Play a pentatonic scale (first 5 notes)
-Play a simple song
-Identify their first 5 notes on the staff
-Understand breathing and sound on a wind instrument

Students can expect to spend time between classes practicing their instrument. The more you practice, the more success you will have.
