What's included

8 live meetings
6 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students will need to put in about 3-4 hours of practice each week to stay on top of class material. We build material each lesson so it is essential that students come to class prepared so we can continue moving forward in the music.
Assessment
I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.

Class Experience

Intermediate Level
Please note: This class picks up where Early Intermediate Piano Level T leaves off.

Prospective students should be familiar with major and minor triads/scales and one-octave arpeggios.

Sight reading music is essential to this class so prospective students should be comfortable with reading music in the Level 5 Piano Adventures series (material from Level T).

In this class, students will explore the left hand crossover passages, identifying intervals in music, playing with a light thumb and exploration of the circle of 5ths.

Please note: We will be using Piano Adventures Lesson Book Level 5 (2nd Edition) for this class. It is a required text for the class.

Week One: Begin an American folk song that features finger substitution and flowing left hand passages.

Week Two: Continue to develop Shenandoah. Examine the phrasing and cadences throughout the piece.

Week Three: Wrap up Shenandoah. Discuss and name perfect intervals. Begin work on a new piece that features chord inversions. Maintain wrist flexibility as you move through the chord inversions.

Week Four: Continue to develop the Burgmüller piece.

Week Five: Continue to develop Burgmüller piece. Examine cadences and harmony in the piece.

Week Six: Discuss Circle of 5ths and prepare a simple exercise that moves through the circle.

Week Seven: Check in on Circle of 5ths exercise. Begin a ballad that features counterclockwise movement through the Circle of 5ths.

Week Eight: Wrap up Autumn Ballad.
