Homework
2-4 hours per week. Piano is always homework based. Practice is required to make progress. I encourage having practice goals instead of given numbers of minutes to practice.Assessment
I give positive notes and encouragement, with the goal of each piece to learn it as best that learner can. If I feel the learner has learned it the best they can, I give a virtual sticker. Prior to that, I give virtual stickers if I believe someone has practiced, or for excellent sight-reading or for doing the piece well but needing more practice.Class Experience
Piano basics: I make sure you have the fundamentals of piano, proper posture, how to use your hands properly, etc. Then: as you progress, we will add to your knowledge in every area of piano and keyboard. Books and ear training: Whether you are a beginner or you have taken lessons before, I will assess which books I think will work for you. I also teach chords and playing by ear. Music styles: You will learn songs and piano pieces that are enjoyable and age/level-appropriate and from many music genres. I cover classical, rock, jazz, and whatever interests you! Overall piano work: We cover pedaling, touch, dynamics, technique, theory and composition, and improvising, among other things. Generally, this is your basic 30-minute piano lesson in which I try to cover as much as I can. However, for a more complete piano course, I teach Private Lesson plus a Specialty Lesson in a different section. If you have a child aged 5-7 years old, I recommend my Meet the Pianimals, also a different section,.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Pianos or keyboards are fine. The first two years of piano lessons, keyboards are fine. After the first two years, I highly encourage getting an acoustic piano but a good digital piano is fine after two years.
