Class Experience

US Grade Preschool
In this ongoing reading class for beginning readers, we will begin with learning/reviewing letter sounds. We will sing a song for each letter, have an activity or game each class, write the letter, and practice the initial letter sounds. Some weeks we will use play dough or clay to form letters as we talk about the sound. This will lead to a progression of blending letters together and then reading words and then sentences. We will also learn one sight word per week. This class is best suited for learners who recognize letters but do not know all of the letter sounds or need to review them. This class meets four days per week, ensuring a greater retention of what has been learned. We will follow the abilities and learning level of the class and adjust the speed of learning if needed. Following is the schedule for the first few weeks:
Week one (week of 9/12) c, a, n sight word "I"
Week two (week of 9/19) t, i, l sight word "the"
Week three (week of 9/26) f, o, g sight word "a"
Week four (week of 10/3) m, e, w sight word "on"
In the weeks following, we will continue through the letter sounds. Week one we will begin to learn to blend letters to make words. After all letter sounds have been introduced, we will go through word families as we continue to learn sight words.
