Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this 5 week class, we will explore an assortment of science topics while completing some cool STEAM projects. We will learn in a variety of ways by watching video clips, viewing slideshows, doing some hands on STEAM activities, and having lots of discussions as we explore a different topic each week. Materials for activities will be posted in the classroom the week before they are needed so that the student will be prepared ahead of time.
Here is a breakdown of our weekly lessons:
Week 1: The Paper Stack Challenge- Students will review/learn about the STEAM/STEM Design Process and Scientific Method. Students will learn about and discuss engineering skills and physics while constructing 3 different shape columns to stack books on. Students will analyze their results.
Week 2: Lava Lamps- Students will review/learn about the STEAM/STEM Design Process and Scientific Method. Students will learn about and discuss density, buoyancy, and polarity while experimenting with oil and water...with a few extra fun ingredients. Students will examine their results.
Week 3: Atoms and Molecules- Students will review/learn about the STEAM/STEM Design Process and Scientific Method. Students will learn about and discuss chemistry, elements, and molecules while building edible atoms and molecules of different elements. Students will examine their creations.
Week 4: Anatomy of the Human Body- Students will review/learn about the STEAM/STEM Design Process and Scientific Method. Students will learn about and discuss the basic make up of the inside organs of the human body while creating a model of one of the systems of the human body. Students will evaluate their models.
Week 5: Chromatography Butterflies- Students will review/learn about the STEAM/STEM Design Process and Scientific Method. Students will learn about and discuss chromatography and separating color mixtures by making beautiful butterflies. Students will analyze their results.
